WASHINGTON (December 17, 2020) – ACC President and CEO Chris Jahn released the following statement in response to President-elect Joe Biden’s nomination of Michael Regan as the administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency:

“We congratulate Michael Regan for his nomination to be the next administrator of EPA. Our industry looks forward to engaging with him and the dedicated civil servants at the agency to help ensure the nation’s key environmental statutes are administered in a way that protects human health and environment, especially among the most vulnerable people and places in America. We would also like to thank Administrator Andrew Wheeler and the dedicated staff at EPA—both political staff and civil servants—for all they have accomplished over the past four years.

“As one of the most heavily regulated manufacturing industries in the U.S., the business of chemistry has an interest in a broad range of the agency’s activities. ACC and its members have a particular interest in the full, effective and efficient implementation of the 2016 amendments to the Toxic Substances Control Act as Congress envisioned. We have been and remain committed to working constructively with EPA and other federal agencies under every presidency, and we look forward to engaging with the incoming administration on key regulatory issues.

“The U.S. chemical industry is vital to the fight against climate change and the pursuit of a more sustainable future by providing critical inputs for energy-saving and renewable solutions such as solar panels and wind turbines, electric and high-efficiency vehicles, advanced building materials and much more.

“We look forward to working with Mr. Regan and the Biden Administration as well as other stakeholders to protect human health and the environment while enabling our industry to continue to innovate, create jobs and grow the economy.”
